President John Mouser’s once childhood dream of owning a business has hit reality with TekSolv, Inc., a one-stop shop for safety. Although it took him through college, dealing with consultants, and owning a commercial cleaning company to decide exactly what he wanted to do with his business, he said he is thrilled with the continuing success of his consulting company.
“We still have our first client, Delmarva Power, after working with them in 1999,” said Mouser, and, “we still have our first employee, Chris Bonson.”
Initially TekSolv focused on emergency response activities, program development, and safety auditing, but as the demand for services started to increase the company decided it was time for an expansion. Now TekSolv provides over 100 different services to meet the individual needs of each client.
Current services fall within occupational health, project staffing, rescue, engineering, safety and health management, maintenance, industrial hygiene, environmental, equipment rentals, oil and gas, and the Delaware Valley Safety Council.
With so many options at TekSolv it is simple and cost efficient for a client’s new employee to complete their pre-employment process in one facility. From drug-screens and Basic Orientation Plus training, to the up-and-coming safety retail store, a new employee will be prepared for work in no time.
“We can take a new employee through their entire pre-employment process,” said Matthew Netsch, director of sales and marketing, “It saves time and money sending everyone to one place as opposed to a different place for each and every service.”
After the pre-employment process, the new, 25,000 square-foot corporate headquarters offers additional resources for workers, such as respirator fit testing, physicals performed by nine emergency room physicians, and a training room containing 63 computers that provide over 700 computer safety programs and refresher courses.
The idea of a one-stop shop began when Mouser was a safety manager at Delmarva Power in 1993. He decided to establish TekSolv in 1997 and soon left Delmarva Power to officially form TekSolv in 1999.
Mouser said he can remember when he thought of the name for TekSolv. After he and senior vice president, Kevin Hurd, were debating on names for hours they narrowed it down to six final names and chose TekSolv by popular vote.
“I was literally stepping off a bar stool when it hit me out of nowhere,” said Mouser.
Now TekSolv has a corporate location in Newark, Del. and a satellite office in Harrisburg, Pa. Together they are comprised of approximately 30 degreed, certified professionals in the safety, health, environmental, engineering, maintenance and rescue disciplines, 38 full-time employees, 40 sub-contract workers, and 275 active customers, all striving to create the safest possible work environments.
With such a drastic increase in growth in only a few years Mouser said he is excited to see what the future will bring. For now he is focused on the grand opening of the retail store, scheduled for Feb. 14, which will carry products from MSA, Carhartt, Crossfire, Lakeland, Helly Hansen, RAE Systems, and more. Eventually he hopes to expand TekSolv’s footprint even further with additional offices around the country.
“We are continually becoming every company’s first choice for technical needs,” said Mouser.
